While out in California in January for Macworld 2009 I was able to use twitter to setup an interview with Revision3 podcast host Patrick Norton (twitter). It snowballed from being just Patrick Norton to also Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback (twitter), whom I had met at the Diggnation Live Show/Meetup at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, California. This is the same event in which I was recorded in Episode 186 – Live In Los Angeles! as the Palm Centro & Macbook Pro break dancing heckler. As the day came for the interview, Revision3 Producers Roger Chang (twitter) and David Prager (twitter) also joined in to be interviewed on camera for The Plan8 Podcast.

So over the next five video session podcasts The Plan8 Podcast visits Revision3.

On Today’s show:

The Plan8 Podcast host, Patrick Roanhouse (Twitter) interviews Revision3’s Senior Producer, Roger Chang (Twitter)

We discuss:

  • Roger’s Geek past times
  • Life going from Broadcast TV to the Interwebs.
  • The “Democratization” of content production, examples like web show “The Guild” and concepts like citizen journalism.
  • Hosting content and getting the “numbers” for web shows viewer ship for commercialization.
  • Geek TV choices, Battlestar Gallatica to Doctor Who.
  • Comicbooks, Roger tells us why Green Lantern: Ring Wars will be the most epic story arc
  • Current Video Game Addictions

Today on The Plan8 Podcast (twitter) host Patrick Roanhouse (twitter)  gets to interview the original unscrewed, infected, web drifting, internet superstar himself, Martin Sargent (twitter). Martin was a Segment Producer on TechTV’s The Screen Savers and later as the host of his own late night talk show Unscrewed with Martin Sargent. Being a true master of navagation of the weird side of the web Martin started the Revision3 podcast Web Drifter which garnered several awards for its wacky exploration of the internet’s strangest viral denizen. Soon Martin also started the Revision3 podcast Infected which later evolved into Revision3’s Internet Superstar.

Currently Martin is at work working with fellow TechTV alum Sarah Lane (twitter) on a new podcast called This Week in Fun, a show recorded at the famed Leo Laporte’s TWiT Cottage.

Today Patrick and Martin talk about:

  • Who is is Martin Sargent, his back story about dreams of academia
  • Martin’s Cult following
  • Martin’s show Web Drifter’s future
  • Martin’s new project, This Week in Fun
  • The death of TechTV
  • Martin’s top websites of weird
  • Martin’s view of the desensitizing effects of the dark side of the web
  • Jim Louderback and the phrase that became a mantra of angry geeks
  • Joey the intern
  • The people Martin got to meet in his web travels
  • Alex Chiu, the man who can help you live forever
